About the film

I love action movies and science fiction just as much as I love horror. So without any money, I wanted to make an alien invasion film to rival INDEPENDENCE DAY. But since we didn't have any money, all we could really afford was a trailer. To be honest, trailers are generally better than the film. In most cases, it's much more fun to imagine what the film is going to be than to actually see it. So with a basic premise, I give you THE INSURGENTS. Watch the trailer and imagine how cool it could be.

Making the Film

Making a trailer is fun...really fun. Essentially it's just a combination of money shots strung together with cool music and motion graphics. From the beginning, I wanted to make a trailer that LOOKED like a trailer. I watched dozens online and took notes on the pacing and editing techniques. For weeks I would recite the trailer in my head over and over, timing myself to make sure it was quick and to the point. Yes, this is crazy, but it worked.

With a script written, we spent all of our money on some plastic guns and a couple of MINI-DV tapes to shoot on. After a couple days of shooting and a week of post, we had a trailer that LOOKED like a trailer.
