About the Film
With a Sony FX1 in hand, I was ready to jump in to the world of filmmaking and make my first scary movie. I was super stoked and inspired and ready to roll, but knew I had a lot to learn. So instead of attempting some epic movie, I wanted to keep it simple. That's why I decided to base an entire short on a single jump scare. It ended up working. Everytime I see someone watch this film, I laugh at how much it scares them.
Making the Film
DOWNSTAIRS is my very first attempt at making a spooky movie. In fact, it was my second attempt at making ANY movie. I didn't really know what I was doing which is why I just filmed Corey walking around my house. This proved to be very useful because he could sit around while I set up lights and I didn't embarass myself in front of any crew members. Looking back at this film, I have to say, it's not that bad. Maybe it's beginner's luck or just the fact that bunnies are terrifying. FUN FACT: This is the ONLY Pretty People Picture film I have been in...and it will probably stay that way.
