These Things Happen...
So I always like to keep the "irons burning in the fire." Whenever I'm not working on a current project, I like to think about future projects. Whether it's something for this website, a feature film, or short film idea, I'm constantly trying to come up with something fun to work on. This way whenever I pull an iron out of the fire and get to work on it, I can replace it with a new idea.
Anyway, about five or six months ago, I thought of something awesome! I was really stoked. It was a "Choose Your Own Adventure Zombie Movie." It was going to be a DVD and as each scene would end, you'd be able to chose what the characters would do next. But I didn't just think it was a cool concept, I actually worked on it. I came up with the plot, the characters and even some of the different "paths." I even looked into the data amount it would take and how much Blu Ray DVDs can hold. This was something I was hoping to do in a few years and really put Pretty People Pictures on the map.
Well...turns out, not only did someone else have the exact same idea, but they've already made it. If you go to SurviveTheOutbreak.com you can watch Chris Lund's entire Choose Your Own Adventure Zombie Movie, "THE OUTBREAK." When I discovered this site, I had very "Knocked Up" moment where Seth Rogan and friends discover Mr. Skin and how it was the exact same idea they had.
Oh well, these things do happen and that's why it's good to keep coming up with ideas. While I haven't had a chance to check out the site and play with it, I'm pretty sure my idea was different than theirs. So maybe sometime in the future when everyone forgets about this, I can pull up the old files I was working on and do it for real.
With that said, you should definitely check out The Outbreak. It's always good to support film makers trying something new, especially in new formats. Whether it's awesome or not, it's a hell of a lot cooler than remaking Friday the 13th.
